Sean NevelingEducational Psychologist
As a therapist, I understand how daunting starting a therapeutic process can be and therefore I am committed to create a safe, non-judgemental environment characterised by empathy and trust. This environment is essential to fostering a successful therapeutic relationship where a client is able to work through the process of healing in a healthy way. It is ultimately the decision of the client to take that step into the therapy room which makes the biggest difference to their wellbeing.
I have a keen interest in working with children (3+), adolescents and their parents. I have a background in training as an educator and as a hockey coach, and therefore believe in helping individuals grow and reach their full potential. I have done workshops on activating child protection and resilience in children. I furthermore have worked with individuals whom have traumatic brain injuries, amongst various other age groups and psychological difficulties.
I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of South Africa and my postgraduate degrees, including my master’s in educational psychology, at the University of the Witwatersrand. My internship was completed at the Johannesburg Parent and Child Counselling Centre, here I had incredible exposure in working with various difficulties and fostering parent child relationships. I have worked with clients of a variety of ages, including children, adolescents, and adults. While I have had experience with clients from diverse backgrounds, I believe that each client is a new beginning and an opportunity for growth for all in the therapeutic relationship, including the therapist.
